CLEVELAND University Hospitals (UH) and Cleveland Browns All-Pro Defensive End Myles Garrett are excited to announce a new partnership that names Garrett as the Cleveland Browns Ambassador to University Hospitals. Since being drafted No. 1 overall by the Browns in the 2017 draft, Garrett has called Cleveland home and has been fully committed to uplifting and supporting the Northeast Ohio community. Together, Garrett and UH will collaborate on health care and wellness issues with a shared goal of helping Northeast Ohioans live their best lives.

“Since the moment I was drafted by the Browns, the Cleveland community embraced me and took me in as one of their own. This partnership allows me to help serve a community that has meant so much to me and I’m excited to work with University Hospitals in a meaningful way that leaves the Northeast Ohio community better for all, said Garrett.

Now in his fifth season with the Cleveland Browns, Garrett is arguably the best Defensive End in the NFL, earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2020 and two Pro Bowl selections (2018; starter in 2020) as well as being named to the 2020 PFWA All-NFL and 2017 PFWA All-Rookie teams. He is the only Browns player in team history with multiple double-digit sack seasons, reaching the mark in each of the past three seasons (13.5 in 2018, 10 in 2019, 12 in 2020), and is the only player to lead the franchise in sacks for four consecutive seasons, accomplishing the feat in each of his years with the team. Last year, he finished second in the AFC with 12 sacks, despite missing two games.

As importantly, Garrett is also revered on and off the field as a compassionate teammate who leads by example. Garrett has been a defensive captain, and last season was named the Browns’ Walter Payton Man of the Year, which recognizes elite players for their excellence during games and in support of local and national community initiatives.

“Myles is the epitome of what it means to play with his heart on and off the field. Now in our eighth season as the Health Care Partner for the Cleveland Browns, University Hospitals is delighted to partner with Myles in a way that allows him the opportunity to influence athletes across the region,” said James Voos, MD, Chairman, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, and Head Team Physician for the Cleveland Browns. “Together we will work to empower Northeast Ohioans to maximize their potential with positive health choices.”

Through this partnership with UH, Garrett’s personal journeys will shed light on health issues affecting himself, his family and our community. His passion for children, as demonstrated through his many visits with UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s patients, will continue to be a focus. And his commitment to a healthy lifestyle will shed light on what it takes to reach peak performance – whether pee-wee or pro.

“Myles has been a phenomenal leader on our team, both as a player and as a passionate man who truly cares about giving back to our local Northeast Ohio community and beyond,” said Browns Vice President of Community Relations Jenner Tekancic. “He was extremely deserving of last year’s Browns Walter Payton Man of the Year Award, which we believe is our most prestigious honor

each season. We are excited for Myles to further his efforts in our region through this partnership with UH as both are focused on helping Northeast Ohio be as successful as possible.”

Garrett, who has spent his entire NFL career with the Cleveland Browns, became the highest draft pick from Texas A&M in the history of the NFL draft. What you may not know about Garrett is that he enjoys writing poetry and is working on a children’s book about dinosaurs – just a glimpse of the man beyond the football uniform. This past offseason, he also commissioned his first of multiple art murals that will be displayed throughout Cleveland to highlight the city and other causes that are important to him.

“I am also looking forward to the ability to connect with Northeast Ohio in a different way. There is so much more to me than the incredible game of football and I look forward to sharing other aspects of who I am through this partnership,” Garrett said.
