CLEVELAND, OhioA transformational gift of $15 million from Robert J. Jursich, Sr. of Akron, Ohio, will establish the Robert and Marthe Jursich Care for Children Fund at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s (UH Rainbow), supporting the people, programs and facilities that ensure advanced pediatric care for patients and families.

In recognition, UH Rainbow will name the Robert and Marthe Jursich Tower at its landmark location on the UH Cleveland Medical Center campus, just west of UH Rainbow’s main entrance in Horvitz Tower.

“It is all about helping the children, and as many as possible,” said Robert J. Jursich, Sr. “It is my deepest wish this gift allows Rainbow to continue – and expand – their work, saving and changing as many young lives as possible for generations to come. My late wife Marthe Jursich would be so proud to support the future of Rainbow.”

“For 136 years, UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital has been a place for miracles,” said Patti DePompei, RN, MSN, President, UH Rainbow and MacDonald Women’s Hospital, and Rainbow Babies & Children’s Foundation Chair in Leadership and Innovation. “The care we provide grows increasingly more complex and more advanced, but our purpose is the same – every child deserves a healthy, strong future. The legacy Robert J. Jursich, Sr. leaves with this incredibly generous gift is that when a family comes to Rainbow looking for a miracle, they will find extraordinary care, compassion and hope.”

The Jursich Care for Children Fund will support areas of need at UH Rainbow and fuel advancements in clinical care, technology and research for the benefit of patients and families. It will also aid in the recruitment and retention of the best and brightest pediatric caregivers.

“UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s thrives on the generous support of the community, which allows us to advance the personalized care we provide to our young patients,” said UH Chief Executive Officer Cliff A. Megerian, MD, FACS, Jane and Henry Meyer Chief Executive Officer Distinguished Chair. “The kindness and compassion behind Bob’s gift is truly inspiring. It’s a beautiful and humbling act of generosity that focuses on the future by prioritizing the health of our children.”
