Monday, April 18, 2022
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The American Hospital Association (AHA) today announced that Thomas F. Zenty III, former CEO of University Hospitals Health System in Cleveland, Ohio, will be awarded its 2021 Board of Trustees Award. The Board of Trustees Award is presented to individuals or groups who have made substantial and noteworthy contributions to the work of the AHA on behalf of the hospital field.

Zenty will receive the award during an April 25 ceremony at the AHA Annual Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C.

Zenty’s leadership in AHA began in 1998 when he served on an advisory panel on financial viability measures. His passion for health policy, technology and equity soon led to service on other AHA boards and committees, including chairing the Health Research & Educational Trust and serving on the AHA’s Board of Trustees, Board Executive Committee and Equity of Care Committee, where he championed the association’s work on equity of care, access and advocacy. In addition, he chaired the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care.

“Throughout his career Tom has been committed to transparency, patient safety, diversity and health equity,” said Rick Pollack, AHA president and CEO. “He brought this perspective and vision to his service on the AHA Board of Trustees and the Coalition to Protect America’s Health Care. His leadership, strategic thinking and laser-like focus on health care quality helped transform our health care system.”

Zenty retired as CEO of University Hospitals Health System in 2021.
