Announces plans to discontinue Urgent Cares in July

ASHLAND, Ohio--University Hospitals announced today that the health system will discontinue its Urgent Care services in the communities of New London after July 15 and Loudonville after July 16.

The decisions are based on low patient volumes at these locations and challenges created by a workforce shortage that is impacting health care locally and nationally.

“UH is committed to the health and well-being of residents in and around New London and Loudonville and will provide services more aligned with community needs,” said Sylvia Radziszewski, RRT, MBA, UH Samaritan Medical Center Chief Operating Officer.

According to Radziszewski, Megan Oberhauser, DO, will maintain primary care services in Loudonville and UH lab, radiology and physical therapy services also remain. UH will explore bringing a UH family practice to New London.

Patients also have the option of access to care through UH’s highly successful telemedicine capabilities, which have grown substantially during the COVID-19 pandemic, she added.

UH employees at these Urgent Cares will have opportunities to continue their careers at other UH locations where their services are needed.

“The decisions to discontinue Urgent Cares in these communities, although difficult, are the right ones for our patients, caregivers and health system as we adapt to a changing health care environment,” Radziszewski said. “By aligning our services, people and resources with the needs of communities we service, we can deliver on our promise of the best outcomes, experiences and value for our patients.”
