University Hospitals will suspend non-essential surgeries and procedures

Tuesday, March 17, 2020

The changes come in accordance with the Ohio Governor’s order

University Hospitals system will suspend non-essential surgeries and procedures following Gov. Mike DeWine’s declaration that medical centers work to conserve personal protective equipment (PPE).
As a trusted, responsible health care system, UH is committed to joining health care providers across the nation to help preserve PPE as medical centers prepare for a surge of COVID-19 patients.
UH will end non-essential surgeries at close of day March 18.
If a patient has a surgery or procedure scheduled on or after March 19 that must be postponed, the patient will receive a call from a UH representative.
If a patient does not receive a call regarding postponement, the patient’s surgery or procedure will take place as scheduled.
For any questions or concerns, patients may call your doctor’s office.
For UH patients who have appointments with primary care or specialty care providers, those will proceed as scheduled and will not be postponed.
In supporting the Governor’s declaration, UH will preserve the key elements of the physician-patient relationships and make the best decisions on a case-by-case basis. This will ensure the most compassionate and safest approach to protecting the health and wellbeing of all of our patients.
