UH Geauga Medical Center Recognized as Best Maternity Hospital by U.S. News & World Report

CHARDON, Ohio – U.S. News & World Report recently revealed its 2022-2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care and gave University Hospitals (UH) Geauga Medical Center, a campus of UH Regional Hospitals, a High Performing designation.

U.S. News evaluated 649 hospitals that provide labor and delivery services and submitted detailed data to the publication for analysis. UH Geauga Medical Center was one of only 297 hospitals rated as High Performing, which is the highest award a hospital can earn in maternity care.

U.S. News uses these evaluations to assist expectant parents, in consultation with their doctors, in making informed decisions about where to receive maternity care. The methodology is based entirely on objective measures of quality, and looks at hospital data only for uncomplicated pregnancies–not high-risk pregnancies.

This year, hospitals were evaluated by eight key factors, including:

• C-section delivery rates.
• Early elective delivery rates.
• Overall unexpected newborn complication rates.
• Exclusive breast milk feeding rates.

This year’s methodology also included four measures not previously factored into Best Hospitals for Maternity Care:

• Routine vaginal birth after cesarean delivery rates.
• Episiotomy rates.
• Whether each hospital met new federal criteria for “birthing-friendly” practices.
• Transparency on racial/ethnic disparities.
