CLEVELANDHOHM, a custom-engineered sleeping pod bringing needed naps to new places, and nationally recognized University Hospitals, a northeast Ohio health system comprised of 18 hospitals, more than 50 outpatient health centers and over 200 physician offices, today announced a pilot program to provide frontline workers at UH Cleveland Medical Center with much needed rest during the COVID 19 pandemic. During the 10 month pilot program, doctors, nurses and staff in the UH Cleveland Medical Center Emergency Department will have access to two HOHM units as a space to safely recharge.

HOHM is a custom-engineered, sound-blocking sleep pod designed to safely provide individuals with comfort, privacy, and a place to decompress. In each 43.5 square-foot pod, HOHM features a comfortable twin-sized bed, a privacy and sound-blocking curtain, charging stations, and a tablet to control reservations. The UH Cleveland Medical Center team will be on site to clean rooms and change sheets after each use.

“Our UH Cleveland Medical Center Emergency Department frontline caregivers have been working tirelessly for months to combat the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Robyn Strosaker, MD, University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center Chief Operating Officer. “In the midst of all this trauma and stress, we’ve continuously looked for new ways to support our team, and HOHM sleep pods are a way we can help address their wellbeing.”

“There’s a real need for our HOHM sleep system in hospitals,” said Nikolas Woods, Founder and CEO of HOHM. “Exhausted and overworked doctors and nurses - beyond the COVID-19 crisis - need a space to safely and comfortably rest. We can’t wait to share it with University Hospitals and many other hospitals throughout the country.”

HOHM is also working with UH Ventures, the innovation and commercialization arm of University Hospitals, to collaborate on news ways to mature and grow their platform. “The idea of a flexible space and environment to deliver care and render positive micro-experiences for people holds a lot of potential,” said Kipum Lee, Managing Director of Innovation & Design for UH Ventures. “We’re excited about what the pods will do for caregivers today and what innovative things we might do together in the future.”

Booking a HOHM sleep pod is simple. UH Cleveland staff can book a much-needed nap (from 30 minutes for up to 4 hours) via the HOHM pod tablet. Once booked, employees simply walk in and recharge.

HOHM plans to expand its sleeping pod placements to additional hospitals in the coming months and will also continue to serve corporate offices and educational institutions.
