STREETSBORO, Ohio—University Hospitals (UH) Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center has earned the Healogics® President’s Circle Award for the second year in a row. The award recognizes teams who achieve excellence through exceeding target performance goals, impacting key results and demonstrating cultural beliefs. It is established to distinguish winners as the “best of the best” in patient wound care and hyperbaric oxygen treatment.

The highly respected award was only given to 21 out of nearly 700 centers nationwide. The Center also earned the award in the previous ratings period, signifying that UH Portage consistently ranks in the top three percent among its peers.

“We are making an impact in our patients’ lives and the results continue to demonstrate the high caliber of each member of our team,” said Henry Smith, MBA-HM, BSN, RN, Program Director, Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine at UH Portage and Bedford Medical Centers. “I could not be more proud of a team that strives for greatness day in and day out, and am thankful for their hard work and dedication in earning this prestigious award.”

Jared Storck, DO, FACOS, Medical Director of the UH Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center echoed this sentiment. “Our wonderful caregivers, especially our nurses, deserve so much credit,” he explained. “Most of our team members are local to Portage County, enjoy taking care of their community, and know how to get others motivated when it comes to providing the best patient care.” Dr. Storck is responsible for the medical side of the program, and managing problematic wounds that may require a specialized approach.

Over the last several years, the UH Portage Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center has earned prominent awards, and is not only ranked the best performing Center in Ohio but also one of the very best in the nation.

“When it comes to wound care, our Center is not just a good place to go in terms of access, but it’s ranked one of the top places in the country to seek care,” Dr. Storck added.

At UH Portage Wound Care & Hyperbaric Medicine Center, specialists assist patients by helping to diagnose and manage care for a variety of wounds, including diabetic and neuropathic ulcers, pressure ulcers and atypical ulcers. Generally, wounds that haven’t healed in four weeks or more are considered to be chronic wounds; however, specialists can usually look at wounds and identify a course of treatment in less time.

Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a state-of-the-art adjunct to the comprehensive wound care program. This treatment delivers high doses of oxygen to wounds, and fills the blood with enough oxygen to repair tissues, leading to faster healing times.
