Randy Vince, MD named first health equity fellow by national Urology Care Foundation

CLEVELAND – The Urology Care Foundation (UCF), the world's leading nonprofit urological health foundation and official foundation of the American Urological Association (AUA), announced Randy Vince, MD, of the University Hospitals (UH) Cutler Center for Men, as the inaugural recipient of the Health Equity Fellowship. This fellowship was created for early career urologists who have a passion for humanitarian work to help them be successful in connecting with diverse communities, especially those most marginalized.

"I’ve experienced first-hand the struggles that impact Black communities across this country. Recurring themes point toward a systems issue," said Dr. Vince, urologic oncologist with UH Urology Institute, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine Assistant Professor, and Minority Men's Health Director, UH Cutler Center for Men.

"I’m grateful for UCF’s commitment to better serve historically neglected communities and honored to be a part of their efforts. This fellowship will allow for learning and collaboration with professionals known for turning successful programming into policy. I look forward to helping drive a multifaceted approach to health equity - from grassroots efforts to formal legislation."

The two-year fellowship program consists of one year of didactic education, focusing on health disparities as ethical issues, in partnership with the Center for Urban Bioethics at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia. Throughout the fellowship, Dr. Vince will also learn how to develop and present both oral and written advocacy proposals directed at stakeholders who play a key role in health care systems and population health. At the end of the first year, Dr. Vince will submit a capstone project he will carry out with ongoing mentoring from experts in the field.

Dr. Vince is from Baltimore and is known for his passion for helping others, specifically when it comes to disparities in urologic care for prostate cancer.
