CONCORD TOWNSHIP, Ohio – University Hospitals is investing $39 million to build a new regional cancer hub at UH TriPoint Medical Center. This new hub will offer expanded services for specialized and complex treatments that were previously only available downtown, allowing cancer patients to access these advanced services closer to home.

This is another regional cancer hub constructed by University Hospitals, following the opening of the UH Seidman Cancer Centers at UH Avon and UH Minoff Health Centers. The new Eastside hub will continue UH's commitment to providing accessible, high-quality cancer care closer to patients' homes.

The new hub will be located at the UH TriPoint Physician Pavilion, connected to UH TriPoint Medical Center. Construction will begin this spring, including the renovation of the first two floors of the existing pavilion and an expansion. This development will better serve patients in Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, and surrounding communities.

The hub is expected to open in the fall of 2026. It will:

  • Enhance medical and radiation oncology, infusion, supportive care and pharmacy services at one convenient location, reducing the need for patients to travel to additional sites;
  • Expand clinical trials that were previously only available downtown at UH Cleveland Medical Center;
  • Allow for academic subspecialists in surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology to see patients in the community at the hub location.

“We are making this investment for the sake of our patients to ensure they receive the highest standard of cancer care close to home, rather than having to travel downtown or to multiple locations,” said Robyn Strosaker, MD, President and Chief Operating Officer, UH Lake Health Medical Centers. “In addition to expanding cancer services offered at UH TriPoint Medical Center, services will also be expanded at UH Minoff Health Center. We look forward to providing leading-edge technology, innovative practices, strong clinical research and other initiatives that will help us advance our patient care.”

UH continues to invest in its TriPoint location, which is positioned to care for higher acuity patients. In September 2024, UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital, an extension of UH Cleveland Medical Center, began operating maternity and newborn services at UH TriPoint Medical Center. UH also re-established Level 2 special care nursery services as part of this comprehensive family birthing center for families in Lake County, Ashtabula County, and nearby communities, to provide advanced care for babies born prematurely who are recovering from more serious health problems.

Later this year, UH will move cancer services from UH Conneaut Medical Center to UH Geneva Medical Center. Cancer services currently offered at UH Mentor Health Center will eventually be moved to UH TriPoint, and those buildings will be repurposed to offer other medical services for the community.

Expanded services at UH Minoff Health Center will include increasing the capacity of the infusion center and adding medical office spaces.

“This change allows us to improve coordination of care for patients undergoing cancer treatment, and further integrate research and clinical expertise to advance cancer care in the region,” said Ted Teknos, MD, UH Seidman Cancer Center’s President and Scientific Director. “We made this decision with patient safety and outcomes as the priority, so our patients will receive the highest standard of care. We are working to inform our patients, and are reaching out to them directly to reschedule appointments and minimize any inconvenience this change of location may cause.”
