BEREA, Ohio ─ Some of University Hospitals’ youngest patients and their family members were treated to a special day with the Cleveland Browns at the second annual UH Rainbow Day at Browns Training Camp.
“We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with the Cleveland Browns. Their commitment to creating meaningful experiences—like this special day at training camp—for our patients, families, and caregivers reflects the values we share in supporting our community. It was a privilege to witness the joy this day brought to so many,” says Marissa Kiefer, President, UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s and UH MacDonald Women’s hospitals.
The day started with UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s patients and their families enjoying a special meal then lined up on the practice field at Cleveland Browns CrossCountry Mortgage campus to form a high-five welcome line for players and watching training camp from VIP seating. Training was followed by an autograph session with several Browns players including Mason Graham, Dustin Hopkins, Rex Sunahara, Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski and rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
“We are proud to showcase our partnership with UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s as we host our second annual UH Rainbow Day at Browns Training Camp,” said Browns Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships, Erica Muhleman. “Today is about celebrating UH pediatrics by giving UH Rainbow patients and caregivers the chance to enjoy a day filled with fun, laughter and connection. We are grateful to UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s for our partnership and the opportunity to create impactful moments like this.”
Those impactful moments included a special UH Rainbow visit from Browns players on May 28. Joe Flacco was among several players who helped patients create numbers to be worn on UH Rainbow Day practice gear. Patients also created stickers and specially designed shoes for Coach Stefanski and Browns General Manager Andrew Berry.
Kamilah Cunningham took her teenage daughter to training camp, and she said they both enjoyed the event. “It was such an amazing day and I’m grateful I had the opportunity to share this experience with my daughter. She has sickle cell disease, and we have been in and out of the hospital. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen my daughter smile like she did today!” Kamilah’s daughter was thrilled to meet her favorite player, Shedeur Sanders.
The special gear, including 20 signed helmets, will be auctioned off as a fundraiser for UH Rainbow. Click here for the auction which ends Aug. 4 at 10 p.m.
