UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center Makes First Investments in Sports Medicine Innovation

CLEVELAND – Medical devices, wearable technology and groundbreaking surgical interventions are among the first innovations to come from University Hospitals Sports Innovation Center’s first investments. Click here for video details of each investment.

“We are excited to announce these collaborations and new technology,” said James Voos, MD, the Jack and Mary Herrick Distinguished Chair in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and Executive Director of the Haslam Center. “Advancing medical technology is vital for enhancing performance, preventing injuries and ensuring swift recovery. It’s a game-changer for athletes of all ages, empowering them to reach their full potential while prioritizing their health and well-being.”

The first UH Haslam Innovation Center investments are with Northeast Ohio companies that propel technology forward for the safety of all athletes. They include:

• Collamedix, known for creating CollaFabric, a technology with multiple applications for soft tissue support and repairs
• T3 Performance which provides expansion of UH’s living lab and geographical presence while advancing the ability to capture performance data
• Osteocentric, the designer of UnifiMI. The new implant to bone interface is designed to preserve the architecture of the bone and provide immediate sustainable primary stability

UH Drusinsky Sports Medicine Institute physicians have participated in the research and development of many of these devices.

Additionally, the Haslam Center has entered into agreements with two companies that advance safety during medical procedures. UH was the first medical institution in Ohio to perform surgery using a wireless camera developed by Lazurite. Arthrofree cameras, now in many UH operating rooms, reduce cable-related patient burns and fires in the operating room. Also, a select group of UH physicians are wearing elite, technical medical apparel designed for comfort in a demanding environment. Developed by Kyur, the line will expand to more clinical areas in the future. The Haslam Center is also working with Notus Labs, a sports technology company that delivers athlete health data to coaches and trainers in real time.

The UH Haslam Sports Innovation Center opened in 2023 as a catalyst to improve performance, reduce injury risk and promote healing for stronger, healthier athletes.

The Haslam Center was developed thanks to a visionary $20 million gift from Dee and Jimmy Haslam, with the goal of identifying, supporting and investing in the world’s best sports medicine innovations.
